- How liability arises – at common law (main torts and defences), under contract (Sale & Supply of Goods Act, Unfair Contract Terms Act) and under statute (Occupiers Liability Acts, Defective Premises Act, Environment Acts and Consumer Protection Act)
- Liability insurance policy cover, exclusions and extensions
- An introduction to some of the specialist liability insurance covers including financial loss, professional indemnity, environmental impairment and product guarantee/recall
- Main underwriting and pricing features, including premises risks, pollution, work away, defective design and North American exposures
- Risk management and its relevance to liability insurance
- Claims – handling processes and recent legal/social developments ( e.g. Woolf reforms, RIDDOR).

- Understand the liability exposures for relevant Public and Products Liability Insurance coverage for different types of customer
- Explain the cover usually provided under Public and Products Liability Insurance policies
- Outline the cover available under Financial Loss, Product Guarantee/Recall, and Environmental Impairment Liability policies
