- General overview, including claims leakage, reserving, fraud indicators, Motor insurers’ Bureau
- Own damage claims – repairs, total losses, courtesy cars, fire and theft
- Liability issues – negligence, onus of proof, contributory negligence, investigations, criminal prosecutions, case law
- Third party property damage claims, including mitigation of loss, third party vehicles, hire, credit hire, loss of use, loss of earnings, property damage, miscellaneous expenses, interim payments
- Introduction to third party injury claims and fatalities
- Overview of litigation, including court structure and the Woolf reforms
- Recoveries
- The roles of the Financial Ombudsman Service and the FSA in claims handling.

- Describe the principles of legal liability and factors to consider when investigating liability and making a decision
